Wexford Food Festival will take place from 20th -22nd May 2011 in Wexford town.

 

Following the success of Wexford Food Fair in 2009 and 2010 this year’s event is a three day festival with a tasty schedule of mouth watering events for culinary enthusiasts and children.

 

Celebrating the quality, diversity and wholesomeness of locally and regionally produced food, Wexford Food Festival will provide a platform for artisan food producers and the many critically acclaimed restaurants located in Wexford town.

 

Headlining the 2011 festival celebrity chefs Catherine Fulvio and Wexford’s Phelim Byrne will demonstrate a range of cuisine cooking styles including Italian and Thai themed dishes.

 

This year’s programme will see an open air food producers market brought to Trimmer’s Lane in the heart of Wexford for two days, additional food stands will be found in The Bull Ring and elsewhere in the town creating a delightful food trail. To add to the festival atmosphere a tasty side helping of music and family fun entertainment will ensure locals and visitors alike can enjoy the events around town.

 

Also featuring on the festival programme, a cake and craft sale by the Wexford Federation ICA, a hog roast (pig on a spit!) by Kelly’s Resort Hotel and a special 5 course evening meal with wine courses hosted in the renowned La Dolce Vita, Jacques Bistro Wexford in Trimmers Lane and in Kelly’s Resort Hotel, Rosslare.

 

Children are well catered for with Viking shield making taking place in Trimmers Lane reflecting Wexford’s Viking heritage. Taking the Viking theme further visitors and locals can enjoy half price admission to The Irish National Heritage Park where demonstrations of the Fulacht Fiadh (ancient cooking place) will take place providing the opportunity to sample food cooked the way it was 1500 – 500 BC. Wexford Arts Centre will host their Little Artists Club on Saturday, 21st and throughout the festival will host a graduate exhibition by Wexford School of Art and Design.

 

A restaurant trail around Wexford town will provide food lovers with the opportunity to sample the best Wexford eateries have to offer.

 

Finishing the festival in style a Jazz Brunch will take place on Sunday, 22nd May in the courtyard in Whites of Wexford cooked with local produce to the sounds of local jazz musicians.  The final day of the festival coincides with the Wexford Half Marathon. All those supporting and participating in the race are welcome to come and rest you weary legs and refuel your body and spirit at the Jazz brunch.

TV Chef / proprietor, food writer and cookery tutor, Catherine Fulvio, runs Ballyknocken Cookery School and Ballyknocken House.

Catherine, herself a Wicklow native, says she learnt her cooking skills from her mother and then trained professionally.  Her naturally vivacious personality and pure infectious enthusiasm for food has led her to where she is today.  Catherine and her team host a variety of classes offering mouth-watering dishes while at the same time they dispense helpful advice.

Catherine is highly acclaimed for her hands on, no- fuss style of cookery, using the freshest ingredients possible. She believes that cooking should fun and her easy approach together with recipes that encourage those who normally shy away from cookery is a winning combination.  At the other end of the scale, she also runs her very popular entertaining and gourmet classes for her regular clientele.  She has her own TV Series “Catherine’s Italian Kitchen” and is a regular on TV screens both at home and abroad.  When Catherine is not busy in the kitchen she is busy researching new courses, menus and recipes to delight you with.
